Car Parking At Stansted Airport Is Well Thought Out Considering

Car parking at Stansted airport is well thought out, considering that it is the UK's fourth largest airport serving 19 million customers a year, operating 20 airlines covering 114 destinations, and all with just one runway and one terminal. You'd think things would be cramped and possibly hard to find, but the airport offers a wide range of parking options and at prices which are competitive considering the location of this airport.

Stansted airport offers a number of different parking options, from short stay to mid stay and from long stay to meet-and-greet or valet services. The short stay car parking, which requires no advanced booking, is primarily aimed at providing a suitable service for those who are dropping passengers off or picking them up. It is very close to the main terminal and is charged at £2.60 for up to an hour. However, the first 15 minutes are free which is well worth knowing, and if you can drop off or pick your passengers up quickly then parking will not cost you anything.

For stays of a day or more you can choose from either the mid stay or long stay car parks. The mid stay car parks are just 5 minutes from the terminal by shuttle bus and cost £12.50 per 24 hour period. Although there's no need to book in advance, the advantage of doing so will mean that a place is guaranteed for you: there is no guarantee if you just turn up, and as this is a busy airport it's best not to leave your parking arrangements to chance.

The long stay parking is the best option if you're leaving your car at the airport while you go away on holiday and represents the best value for money if you book in advance. The shuttle bus will collect you, running every 8 minutes during peak times, and every 20 minutes off peak.

The long stay car parking at Stansted airport incorporates a great deal of security, including high security fencing, monitored CCTV coverage and regular patrols. In addition, the long stay car parks include parking for Blue Badge holders, and these 130 bays have been built to the best modern standards, offering all of the space and facilities you require. However, in order to be able to take advantage of this option you are highly recommended to book in advance to be sure of getting one of these spaces should you need it.

You may also be interested to note that Stansted airport parking has a number of other facilities in its long stay car parks, which are not often seen at other locations. This includes a number of oversized bays which are suitable for camper vans or for cars with trailers. Again, however, to be certain of being able to obtain one of these, book in advance because they are limited.

If you do not book in advance then not only are you not guaranteed to be able to find the kind of bay you require, but you will also be charged the roll-up rate of £9 per 24 hours, or part thereof, which makes it much more expensive, and you can obtain discounts of up to 60% by booking in advance.

There are two further options to consider besides the short stay, medium stay and long stay car parks and these are the park and sleep, and the meet and greet services. The park and sleep service is one offered by the local hotels, including the De Salis hotel. Imagine being able to turn up at the hotel, park your car and then enjoy a night's rest before you fly.

In the morning, or whenever your flight departs, you catch the free shuttle bus from outside the hotel entrance, and just 5 minutes later you're at the terminal. At the end of your holiday you call a number and your car is brought to you at the terminal within a few minutes. The parking at these hotels is, in many cases, free, and so all you pay is for your one night's accommodation.

Alternatively the meet and greet service, sometimes referred to as a valet or chauffeur service, is one which allows minimal hassle, and is ideal if you have elderly or disabled passengers, children or a lot of heavy or bulky luggage to take. This service completely eliminates any requirement for travelling or using shuttle busses. Just turn up outside the terminal and your chauffeur will meet you, help you unpack your luggage from the vehicle, and will then drive your car away for you, to be parked in a secure facility.

At the end of the holiday, your chauffeur will drive your car back to the terminal for you. At just £49 for 8 days, this is not an expensive option at all, and as far as car parking at Stansted airport is concerned, it's the easiest, simplest and most hassle free option available.

Headline speakers from NATS, the air traffic services provider, easyJet and Fedex gave the audience an insight into how the airport, airlines and NATS work together to keep planes on the right track and noise impacts to a minimum, discussing topics ranging from aircraft track keeping, the Arrivals Code of Practice to Continuous Descent Approach.

Speaking at the seminar, Terry Morgan, BAA Stansted’s Managing Director, said: “Here at the airport we are in no doubt that noise is one of the biggest issues in our local community. I talk to many people about it, my colleagues are out and about with me in the local community to discuss it, and our Noise Communications team deals with many enquiries on a day to day basis.

“Today is about explaining the good progress we are making in managing noise; to highlight what we are doing to keep local people well informed about the issue; to learn more about how the wider industry is taking seriously its responsibility in this important area and of course, just as important, to receive your comments and feedback.”

The seminar also saw the unveiling of new aircraft departure maps, showing the routes and heights of Stansted planes when taking-off from the airport. This follows last year’s successful launch of similar maps showing where planes fly on their arrival into Stansted. With these new departure maps, the local community now has the best ever information available to them on where planes fly when they operate to and from the airport.

Vicki Hughes, BAA Stansted’s Noise Communications Manager, said: “I am delighted that so many people were able to attend this year’s noise seminar as it’s a fantastic opportunity to share information and help improve understanding of what is a very important issue for many in the local community and surrounding areas.

We are committed to being open and honest about the flights departing and arriving at Stansted, and that is why I’m really excited about the launch of the new departure maps. In providing this additional information we are able to help our local community have a clearer picture of where planes fly when they leave Stansted airport and their typical heights.”

LONDON is on high alert today ahead of the arrival of US President Barack Obama.

Mr Obama, accompanied by his 500-strong entourage, is due to land on British soil at 7.45pm.

Air Force One will touch down at Stansted Airport before the President and the First Lady are flown by helicopter to the US ambassador's residence in Regent's Park.

It will mark the beginning of Mr Obama's first foreign trip since he was elected last November.

During his stay in London he is due to have high-profile talks with the leaders of India, China, South Korea and Russia.

He has also pencilled in talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, a meeting with Conservative Leader David Cameron and a private audience with the Queen.

He will then join other world leaders, including Mr Brown for the G20 summit on Thursday before heading off to a series of planned meetings in Europe.

A total of 200 secret service agents have been charged with protecting the President during his trip.

The entourage will also include medics and chefs and Michelle Obama will have a staff of eight.

Five women hit by car at Stansted Airport

FIVE women from one family were hit by a car as they unloaded their bags from a taxi outside the front of the terminal at Stansted Airport yesterday evening (Monday March 23).

The grandmother and her sister, two daughters and a granddaughter, aged from 19 to 68, had arrived at the airport for a flight home to Dublin when the accident happened.

The five suffered a number of injuries when they were hit by a vehicle driven by an elderly man.

The ambulance service was called shortly after 7.50pm. Fire and police officers and the airport duty management team also attended.

Ann Throw, of the East of England Ambulance Service, said. “Given the scene that we saw, we were surprised we were dealing with relatively minor injuries.

“All were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, with various injuries including cuts, bumps, bruising, and possibly arm fractures but none were thought to be in a serious condition and were all able to walk into the ambulances.

“The driver of the car was also taken to hospital with concern for his condition although he was not injured.”
